Hopefuls need only attend one of the two audition dates, and will be asked to sing 32 bars (approximately 90 seconds) of a song of their choosing, or a song from the show. (You may sing a capella, bring your own backing track / speaker, or bring sheet music for live piano accompaniment. Sheet music preferred.)

While being unavailable for the performance dates is a non-starter, Holland and Graamans are willing to work around rehearsal conflicts, depending on their length or frequency and the role in question. In short, those involved with other productions during the rehearsal period should not count themselves out.

Set in what is now Ukraine, with relevancy to current events, Fiddler is a timeless musical that has touched audiences worldwide with its humor, depth, warmth, and rich, beautiful score. A poignant tale of finding courage and resilience in times of change and turbulence, and discovering that community isn’t anchored in place, but in people.

PRINCIPLE ROLES BREAK DOWN AS FOLLOWS:

Tevye (M, 45-60, Baritone)
The likeable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures.

Golde (F, 40-50, Mezzo/Alto)
Tevye’s strong-willed wife who wishes for her daughters to have good husbands and live easier than she and Tevye.

Tzeitel (F, 20-26, Mezzo-Soprano/Mix)
Tevye’s eldest daughter, who is madly in love with Motel. She is loyal to her family but typically challenges the town’s traditions.

Hodel (F, 18-23, Soprano)
Tevye’s second eldest daughter, who becomes involved with Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join Perchik in Siberia.

Chava (F, 15-20, Mezzo-Soprano/Mix/Alto)
Tevye’s middle daughter who loves to read. Falls in love and runs off with Fydeka, a Russian soldier.

Shprintze (F, 9-15, Mezzo-Soprano/Mix/Alto)
Tevye’s fouth eldest daughter who takes lessons at home from Perchik.

Bielke (F, 8-13), Mezzo-Soprano/Mix/Alto)
Tevye’s youngest daughter. Takes lessons at home from Perchik.

Yente (F, 40-60, Alto)
The meddling matchmaker. She is a widow and village busybody who knows all of the town gossip.

Motel (M, 18-25, Tenor)
The poor and meek tailor who shares a deep love with Tzeitel. Sensitive and nervous, but sincere and friendly.

Perchik (M, 20-30, Tenor)
The outspoken student and visitor to Anatevka, who constantly challenges the traditions of the town. He eventually falls in love with Hodel.

Lazar Wolf (M, 40-60, Bariton)
The feisty, brawny butcher and the town’s wealthiest citizen who wishes to marry Tzeitel. Strong, feisty actor with good comedic skills.

Avram (M, 35-60, Small role and ensemble)
Runs the local bookshop and keeps the town advised of all the news in the area.

Grandma Tzeitel (F, 60-75, Mezzo/Alto)
Golde’s deceased grandmother, who endorses the marriage between Tzeitel and Motel.

Fruma-sarah (F, 35-45, Mezzo/Alto)
Lazar’s Wolf’s deceased first wife. She becomes enraged when her husband plans to wed Tzeitel.

Constable (M, 35-45)
Russian military official stationed near Anatevka who knows the villagers well, however he has superficial relationships with the villagers.

Fyedka (M, 20-25)
A strong, young Russian soldier who sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye’s imposed silence.

Ensemble
Ensemble will portray the villagers of Anatevka, as either Mamas, Papas, Sons or Daughters. Also Russian soldiers, Priests, Constables, and the Fiddler.

The production team is also in search of volunteers to take on crew positions – such as set building, painting, sewing, and stage crew. Those interested should email redoctopustheatre@gmail.com with a short description of their interest and experience.
